Sun Tzu is the traditional author of The Art of War, a foundational Chinese text on strategy and military conduct. Carl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) was a Prussian general and military theorist whose On War remains central to modern strategic thought. Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527), best known for his political writings, also produced influential works on military organization and statecraft. Antoine-Henri Jomini (1779-1869) was a Swiss officer and theorist whose analyses of Napoleonic warfare shaped nineteenth-century military doctrine.
