Ms. Ardys is based on Clarice’s mother and a special high school journalism teacher. Both of these extraordinary women were wise, kind, and strong. They sparked Clarice’s creativity and writing capabilities. Orie and Ding are based on Clarice’s family’s pets. Clarice’s cat lost his front right limb to cancer, and her dog was the best friend who helped the cat recover. Aunt Sophia’s chocolate chip cookie recipe is courtesy of Clarice’s daughter. Clarice is blessed to have a loving family and many treasured friends.
