To us, it was an intriguing idea, and the ensuing two years and 100,000 miles were the experience of a lifetime. We spent lazy afternoons in small towns with family-run restaurants, shady green parks and community pools filled with splashing kids that are the symbols of America. We immersed ourselves in the scenic beauty of our country’s mountains, deserts, lakes, and coastlines, spotting antelope, buffalo, bighorn sheep, moose, flamingoes and manatees in the wild. Driving nearly every day, we felt like we had no roots, but we found that Americans were incredibly friendly to strangers who were just passing through.
Writing about our trip got us re-energized to go out and have more adventures, and we hope that it might help people who are considering taking a similar trip. By sharing some things that we learned along the way (or wished we had known before we started out), it may be easier for you to take the plunge and have your own amazing experience.
