ON THE THREE BOOKSin the Trilogy titled“PSYCHE & CONSCIOUSNESS (The Grand Scheme)” by Kim-Vũ***The collection is comprised of three books. Book One titled “Western Thought in a Nutshell” is a survey of great ideas proposed by great thinkers in the Western tradition, from the Pre-Socratics all the way to present-day Jonathan Schaffer. It contains 38 Chapters in 38 pages, with a Foreword and a Prologue explaining the sixty-year-long journey that the author took to arrive at the realization of the trilogy. Book Two titled “Buddhist Teachings in a Nutshell” contains 64 Chapters in 64 pages presenting in a systematic manner the bulk of Shakyamuni Buddha’s message to posterity, with the concepts of Link, Karma, Suffering, Greed, Anger, Ignorance, the Eightfold Path etc. The book then elaborates on various psychological states that humans can experience while conducting their daily lives, leading to pain or serenity. Book Three titled “Buddhist Faith and Wisdom as a Way of Life” is a short guide to leading a life free from suffering and also explains some more about the essence of Buddhist teachings. The trilogy concludes with an Epilogue where the author expresses his gratitude to life, in particular to the Triple Gem, comprised of the Fully Awake, His teachings and His community of Saintly Disciples.Book Two also shows a completely revolutionary paradigm for the study of Psychology based on a genuine understanding of the nooks and crannies of the human psyche that cannot be divorced from a thorough understanding of the concept of recurrence of life in various forms of metamorphosis.***.Comments from a Reviewer***What I appreciated about it is the accessibility. It's written in a very clear voice, actually quite easy to read considering the density of the material covered! And I also found the short chapters a welcome way to wade through the discussion. From what I can tell, it's the project of someone who is older who really wants to find a way of writing down all the wisdom and intellectual knowledge that he has acquired through his vast reading over a lifetime. I was impressed by the breadth and range of the topics. The impression I get is that the book is almost like a dictionary or a Cliff Notes to the great thinkers--short synopses of some of the landmark philosophers and thoughts of the ages. So if you're someone who is curious about person z, y, z, or school of thought x, y, z, this book would be a good place to start in terms of getting a quick summary.***
