It's 1951 and wash day on a street in Tameside. Anna, Clementine and Peggy share the frustration of domestic servitude and shouldering the responsibilities of raising a family through the privation of post-war Britain. As the common bonds of solidarity and friendships flourish, we are given a glimpse into the lives of this generation of women who went unnoticed and unheard. That is until an Observer from the Mass Observation Survey turned up and began to listen. This new one act play is based on the memories and stories shared by a group of women from Tameside who grew up during a time of immense social change where a woman's place was beginning to step outside of the home. Sharing The Story is a project that has been created to address loneliness and isolation experienced by many older people. The main aim is to take professional theatre directly to those who are unable to get to the theatre. In addition, there is an opportunity to participate directly in the creation of the play by sharing memories and stories which will be preserved.
