The Ethnic Other: Puerto Rican Colonial Context is a historical and biographical narrative which describes an evolving educational method, told from the point of view of the youngest sibling Samuel Josiah Bolduc. Raised in a multi-racial American missionary family, he later became a dynamic educational leader. This is his story of hope, empathy, and contextual education, a dynamic convergence of intercultural fusion, which, in young Samuel, produced fertile ground linking the family's experiences living in the United States mainland as an "Ethnic Other", as a bridge of understanding and empowerment for their new neighbors in Puerto Rico. This book is a fresh perspective of the Puerto Rican and African-American diasporas, and the systemic socioeconomic structures that are based on discrimination towards “the Ethnic Other”.
