Inhaltsangabe

The magical world of Ballet and the “Cold War”, the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the beginning of Perestroika – that’s the reality for 12 year old Miroslava, a native of Soviet Ukraine and a student of the professional Kiev Ballet Academy. Miroslava, or Mira for short, returns to her hometown of Kiev from an unusually long summer break caused by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion; upon return she faces unexpected changes and events that might turn her school life into a gloomy ongoing experience. The new ballet teacher disapproves of the girl’s body type, while the boy’s leader Max repeatedly gets her in trouble. When Mira is threatened to be expelled from the Academy, the world around her crumbles and her mother isn’t there to save her. A sprained ankle seems like the final drop which would break Mira away from Ballet. Instead, it empowers her to fight. She discovers new friendships, gets involved in risky adventures, and directs a school play. On her way to success, Mira discovers other talents and realizes that life is full of opportunities. Can Mira prove to her parents, her cruel teacher, and most importantly, to herself that Ballet is the right choice for her future?
