George MacDonald is often regarded as the founding father of modern fantasy and is considered a major influence on C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. A contemporary and friend of Mark Twain and Lewis Carroll, his fellow writers were also his biggest fans. His best-known works are Phantastes, The Princess and the Goblin, At the Back of the North Wind, and Lilith, all fantasy novels, and fairy tales such as "The Light Princess," "The Golden Key," and "The Wise Woman."

Ned Bustard is the graphic designer for World's End Images and Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA). He has contributed to Revealed: A Storybook Bible for Grown-Ups, On Reading Well: Finding the Good Life Through Great Books, and Every Moment Holy. He is creative director for Square Halo Books, Inc., and curator of the Square Halo Gallery, and he serves on the boards of the Association of Scholars of Christianity in the History of Art (ASCHA) and The Row House, Inc.
