But, if not permanently preserved, they will be lost forever.In this work, “Notes from Lebanon’s First 200 Years,” the effort has been made to capture and preserve much of the community’s history. There will of course be oversights, places or happenings that should have been mentioned that weren’t, and people who should have gotten “shout- outs” that didn’t.Please excuse these shortcomings but know that best intentions were at heart when composing the material.We urge you to use this book as a catalyst to begin your own history. Tell your children about the importance of preserving memories and put on paper what you remember about what your parents and grandparents may have told you about a winter storm, their first experience of driving on the interstate, paying more than $4 for a gallon of gas, or seeing water sell for as much or more than milk.This is the essence of history. If these matters, these remembrances are not kept, they will be lost forever.It is the responsibility of all of us to make sure this doesn’t happen.
