Inhaltsangabe

Step loves moving one note at a time up and down the musical staff. Then along comes Skip—bold, bouncy, and not afraid to jump over a note. When these two meet, they discover that the best melodies use both: smooth steps and exciting skips!

Told with charming characters and clear, kid-friendly language, this picture book helps young learners see and hear how melodies move on the staff—so music reading feels simple, memorable, and fun.

Perfect for:

  • Elementary music teachers (PreK–5) introducing melodic movement
  • Parents supporting early music literacy at home
  • General classroom read-alouds that blend story with learning
What kids will learn:
  • What is a Step? Moving to the next-door note (line↔space)
  • What is a Skip? Jumping over one note (line→line or space→space)
  • Confidence using the vocabulary “step” and “skip” when listening, singing, or pointing to notes

Why teachers love it:

  • Story-driven hook that keeps wiggly learners engaged
  • Clear language you can echo during warm-ups and centers
  • Pairs perfectly with solfege, floor staff games, and simple instrument patterns
By the end, kids will cheer for Step and Skip—and start hearing both in their favorite songs.
