'Special Procedures' is the collective name given to the different mandates of Independent Experts, Special Rapporteurs, and Working Groups in the field of human rights, appointed by the United Nations' Human Rights Council (and formerly by the now-defunct Commission on Human Rights), with the purpose of developing international human rights standards, receiving communications, visiting States, and generally advancing international human rights law and practice. Humberto Cant Rivera is an Associate Researcher on human rights and PhD Candidate at the Centre de recherche sur les droits de l'homme et le droit humanitaire (CRDH) of Panthon-Assas University (Paris II). He has been a Visiting Professional at the Special Procedures Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and a Scholar of The Hague Academy of International Law. His research focuses on business and human rights, transitional justice, enforced disappearance, and economic, social and cultural rights.
