Inhaltsangabe

I found it amazing that a complex system’s reliability can be described with a simple exponential equation—its probability density function (PDF). The PDF is important because it quantifies the probability of operating successfully for each mission time. And because reliability for large systems is not easily changed, the PDF represents the system’s DNA. This means that a system’s performance characteristics such as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) are not easily changed without significant changes to the system. The PDF provides reliability engineers a tool that can be used to analyze their system’s performance and to manage reliability.
