Rusty Rawlings, who is on an extended leave of absence from the Texas Rangers, befriends a young man who comes to his ranch seeking work, but soon discovers that he is far from being who he claims to be. Cody Wells, the name given to Rusty by the young man, is in reality Cody Lamont, the nephew of the notorious outlaw Joe Lamont. Although Cody had been a member of the Lamont gang, he convinces Rusty that he no longer wants any part of that life and wants to start over with a new life on the ranch.The friendship between the two men is severely tested, when for some unexplained reason, Cody rejoins his uncles gang of outlaws and robs a bank. This turn of events prompts Rusty to once more strap on his gun, pin on his Texas Ranger badge and ride out again to track down the man he thought was his friend and bring him to justice.
