Inhaltsangabe

This book provides valuable insights into Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) and Persistent Post-Concussion Syndrome (PPCS) for professionals, current and past sufferers, students of TBI, and others interested in how it affects everyday life. To support personal reflections and provide a broader, research-based interpretation of experienced PPCS, 217 journal articles and books are referenced.

Chapter one defines and explains terminology relevant to TBI and MTBI, statistics highlighting its respective socioeconomic global health problem, the author’s accident and subsequent A&E visits, initial MTBI symptoms, the 'sticky cognitive vortex of darkness', a chronology of PPCS symptoms, and finally, some brief personal reflections.

Chapter two provides an A-Z of experienced PPCS symptoms (with supportive MTBI research), which may be useful when examining a single symptom in isolation or in conjunction with others. It also includes useful MTBI management strategies, how dietary changes may influence recovery, and websites offering further knowledge regarding provision access and understanding.

Chapter three continues with more detailed personal journey reflections before reviewing, in principle, scientific research from modern imaging, biomarkers, nanomedicine, prognostic models, and connectomic analysis. Finally, following a brief reflective summation, future treatment options are suggested based on the evidence presented.

Given the global socioeconomic cost MTBI presents, there is a need for greater investment and research to construct diagnostic and valid predictive models. Such models can offer greater immediacy and facilitate a more comprehensive, multidimensional approach to treatment options. In so doing, this may facilitate targeted therapeutic management plans to deliver optimal recovery.
