Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Roxana Ciolăneanu teaches translation and Romanian as a foreign language at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, where she also holds a research position with the Centre for Linguistics. Her research interests mainly lie in cognitive semantics, sociolinguistics, contrastive linguistics, translation, and terminology. She has published various articles and studies in line with her research activity and co-edited several collective volumes, the most recent ones being Building Cultural Bridges in the Translation of Irony and Humour (2024) and Translation and Cultural Mediation. Myths, Legends and Fairytales in Romania and across the World (2020).

Roxana Elisabeta Marinescu is a Professor with the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania, with main research interests and publications in feminism and gender issues, democratic citizenship, education for intercultural and plurilingual communication, postcolonial and postcommunist studies. Dr. Marinescu has authored four books on cultural and literary studies: Salman Rushdie and Multiple Identities (2013), Northern Ireland. Border Country (2013), Self-Constructs of Identity: The Case of Northern Ireland (2012) and Violated Bodies. A Cross-Cultural Reading by Writers of South-Asian Origin (2009), and co-edited three: Handbook of Research on Translating Myth and Reality in Women Imagery across Disciplines (2020), Comunicare 4.0. Tratat de comunicare în afaceri internaționale (2019) and Learning Is Fun. Teaching Methodology for Plurilingual Education and a Balanced Life (2017). Also, she has published chapters in 15 collective volumes, and over sixty articles in international academic journals. For over 25 years Dr. Marinescu was a member of the Non-governmental organization AnA Society for Feminist Analyses and the President of the organization between 2018 and 2020. In this capacity, she participated in and coordinated academic projects and community work in the areas of feminism, gender issues and women’s empowerment. She continues to constantly engage with Romanian and international civil society and conduct awareness-raising, tutoring and mentoring, as well as educational work in the areas of gender equality and equity, feminism and education for democratic citizenship. Dr. Marinescu is currently the Coordinator of the Committee for Gender Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Bucharest University for Economic Studies, Romania.
