"The Elvis Handbook" presents a fresh perspective on the meteoric rise and fall of one man who altered the face of music forever. From his birth in a two room shack in East Tupelo, Mississippi to his tragic early death at his Graceland home, it was a long and testing journey for the shy boy who was first encountered hanging around the doors of Sun studios. His early recordings established a musical genre - rock 'n' roll - that had never been heard before, and with the guidance of 'Colonel' Tom Parker, Elvis became a record-breaking singing and film star known around the world. He worked with Johnny Cash, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra among others and was admired by the likes of John Lennon, Phil Spector and Leonard Bernstein. With extensive quotations, first hand iconography, this book sets out to explore the man behind the legend and provide an intimate tribute to a life lived to the full.
Biografía del autor
Tara McAdams writes regularly on music, film and other aspects of popular culture for a number of regional and national American publications. Acclaimed items have included a short biographical article on the blues singer Mamie Smith, and her incisive - and often humorous - reviews of the films of Elvis Presley for the book Hollywood Rock. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee with her husband, the well-known writer Robert Gordn, and their two children.
