Inhaltsangabe

One of the most significant evolutions in modern sport has been the emergence of world-class performances by master athletes. Over a wide range of sport – from golf to marathons and ironman triathlons, from swimming to football, from rowing to track & field athletes who, in the past, would have given away their activities in their thirties or younger, now carry on. No longer is anyone too old to compete and a whole new competitive area has opened up for sportspeople ranging in age up to their seventies. The key which unlocked the door to this new age is the discovery that superior levels of fitness can be achieved and maintained at any age. And the man who did most to provide the key and then turn it in the lock is New Zealand’s coaching guru, Arthur Lydiard. Lydiard perfected ground-breaking stamina-building training techniques for middle and distance running, parlayed that into the now worldwide cult of jogging for fitness and spread the message that, if you establish stamina and endurance as the foundation for your chosen activity, you can extend your competitive life indefinitely.
