The Understanding of the Bible involves a two-way relation between the reader and the text. The practical significance of this kind of relation has been studied by a number of modern thinkers, and Dr Thiselton presses their insights into service in order to help us to grasp what is involved when we hear God speaking through the Bible today. I have found his work to be an education to myself, and I have no doubt that it will be equally helpful to others'. F.F. Bruce, formerly Professor Emeritus, Manchester University
