In this boisterous, energetic story, Isabella Wella and her friend, Filly, find a strange box in her aunts house when playing hide-and-seek. The box contains an old letter that seems never to have been opened and a picture of Isabellas great-great-great-grandfather with pirate captain Robert Morgan. Was her great-great-great-grandfather a pirate? The letter shows that he was actually a spy trying to catch the pirates, and that, because he knew he was risking his life, he had hidden treasure near the house to support his family if anything happened to him. If the letter has never been opened, is the treasure still there? Isabella Wella and Filly set off to find out. Because of the short length of the story, the treasure hunt cannot be that complicated, and the villain who owns the land its been buried on, Old Man Brunt, cannot be that developed, other than that hes a really nasty bit of pasty, but the story bounds along with such energy that the reader doesnt really notice these gaps when reading. Jefferies writes with great spirit and a love of wordplay and silly names that makes the story entertaining throughout, and there is a hint at the end of further treasure hunts to come.
