Maureen Inwood was born in London at the start of WWII and moved to Ripley, Surrey, to escape the bombing. There she lived with her mother, her three aunts and her grandparents. Educated at various schools in Ripley and Guildford, she left formal education at fifteen to go into catering. She is the mother of two grown-up sons, and has six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
