John Bunyan was variously a tinker, soldier, Baptist minister, prisoner and writer of outstanding narrative genius which reached its apotheosis in this, his greatest work. The Pilgrim's Progress (Part I 1678/Part II 1684) holds a unique place in the history of English literature.
