Henry Matthews, born and educated in England, is an architectural historian. He has a degree in architecture from Cambridge University, has practised architecture and taught at universities on both sides of the Atlantic. He has published widely on a variety of topics from Islamic architecture to American architecture of the twentieth century. His greatest interest is in making the history of architecture accessible to students and general readers. He hopes with this book to bring an understanding of Ottoman architecture to a wider public.
