Inhaltsangabe

For hundreds of years the River Tyne brought prosperity to Newcastle and Gateshead. From the 13th and 14th centuries onwards, coal, glass, pottery, chemicals, machinery and even ships themselves left the river for markets all over the world. As well as playing a vital part in Tyneside's commercial success, the Tyne was a popular venue for sport and recreation, offering everything from regattas to salmon fishing. This book tells the story of the great river and the people who worked and played on or near it. It also sheds light on the secret burns and hidden rivers that flow into the Tyne. Packed with archive illustrations and contemporary photography, this book shows our great River Tyne in all its moods and in ways that you have never soon before
