Inhaltsangabe

Sentencing is seldom out of the headlines. In the first month of 2003, debate raged in the tabloids and broad sheets over the correct sentencing policy in relation to those who burgle or carry guns. Much of the debate has been ill informed and has demonstrated that public awareness of sentencing policy is poor. Poor awareness leads inevitably to misunderstandings and a lowering in public confidence in the criminal justice system generally. accompanied by a regular quarterly update bringing developments in sentencing procedure and practice to the attention of the busy criminal practitioner. The book sets out the statutory basis for sentencing in the magistrates' court and the Crown Court supplemented with case law and examples for the practitioner. Intended for use in the court and in the solicitor's office, it should be of use to all professionals involved in the sentencing process.
