Adolph Sutro's clifftop estate, the castle-like Cliff House, and the seven saltwater pools of Sutro Baths, where up to thirty thousand people crowded in to watch trick diving, walking-underwater contests, and a diving dog named Jack. Sutro shipped two hundred plaster statues from Belgium in 1884 to line the grounds. Designed to read as a family album, with printed corner mounts, deckled page borders and reproduced ephemera including a Cliff House fare card and Sutro Baths admission tickets.
