Fifty Two Sisters: Life Behind the Razor Wire Fence by Shannon Willetts Falk asks to consider how you would cope if you were pulled away from your comfortable home and familiar surroundings arrested and thrown in jail. You had entered a world where you were grateful just to get an extra blanket and 1" pad for sleeping.Your 12 year old daughter is taken to a place you had only imagined in fiction or nightmares and your 19 year old son is left to couch surf through life without you. Worse yet, you knew it was your own fault. You weren't going to get out of it this time. With bail set at $135K the charges would stick and you weren't getting out any time soon. There would be no financial or legal life rafts to save you now. That is Shannon Willitts Falk's story. The story she tells is the raw and honest account of her life in the Sonoma County women's jail, which, surprisingly, ends in a revelation that changes her future. Falk's diagnosis with bipolar disease changes everything. And as life rafts go it is better than rehab because it brings understanding to the confusion.
