Aus dem Klappentext

The 50 chapters in the latest edition of Cancer Management: A Multidisciplinary Approach represent the efforts of 118 contributors from the 50 institutions across the US (and two from Canada). Their goals are threefold. 1) To provide practical information for physicians who manage cancer patients. 2) To present this information concisely, uniformly, and logically, emphasizing the natural history of the malignancy, screening and diagnosis, staging and prognosis, and treatment. And 3), to emphasize a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to patient management that involves surgical, radiation, and medical oncologists, as well as other health care professionals, working as a cohesive team.

This fifth edition updates existing chapters to keep pace with the most current diagnostic and treatment recommendations. It has been reorganized to provide a more logical progression of topics and enhance readability. Also, coverage of certain cancers (such as non-small-cell lung cancer and brain cancer) has been expanded. A new chapter on gestational trophoblastic tumors has been added to the section on Gynecologic Malignancies. Information on newly approved drugs as well as recently completed clinical trials is also updated.

As with the first four editions, each chapter (as appropriate) has been authored jointly by practicing medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists. In some cases, other specialists have been asked to contribute their expertise. All of our contributors personally manage patients using a multidisciplinary approach. Thus these chapters reflect the recommendations of practitioners cognizant that therapies must be based on evidence-based research directed at practical patient care in a cost-effective manner.

This year-2001 edition is the first edition of the 21st century. We believe that the exciting advances chronicled in its pages truly represent the beginning of a new millennium in cancer treatment.
