Alle Exemplare der Ausgabe mit dieser ISBN anzeigen:Shooting Cowboys traces the transformation of the cowboy image in Canada over a ninety-year period. An extensive selection of historical photographs from the Canadian west examines the photographer's role in creating and influencing the cultural myth of the cowboy. Brock Silversides has assembled some of the most fascinating and surprising images.
The text and photographs reveal how and why the archetypical cowboy images evolved, and how these images were used for postcards, tourist literature and souvenirs, magazine and book illustrations, and even for selling cattle. Included here are examples of documentary, promotional, and journalistic photography- some honest, some idealized, some fabricated, but all extremely interesting.
Brock Silversides is a Fifth House Books author.

Buchbeschreibung Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. Shooting Cowboys: Photographing Canadian Cowboy Culture 1875 1965; Broch V. Silversides; Fifth House publishers, Calgary AB, 1997. First edition. Presentation copy. From the blurb Shooting Cowboys contains a fascinating selection of the cowboy images produced in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta (before 1905 part of the old North-West Territories), the original heart of the Canadian ranching industry. Some of the images produced in this region were honest and unbiased. Others, surprisingly, were derivative of the Hollywood cowboy and had little connection to life and society in the Canadian west. The collection begins with the plainsmen of Fort Walsh in the 1870s and ends in the mid-1960s. prior to the onset of the Urban Cowboy phenomenon and the new country music. It includes pictures of the famous and the obscure, contrasting amateur and professional work, as well as candid and posed shots. Some of these images have appeared in books or films, but the majority have never before been published. Brock Silversides, an audio-visual archivist, is an independent archival consultant/appraiser for photography, film, broadcasting, and music. He has worked for the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Public Library, the National Library of Canada, the Provincial Archives of Alberta, and numerous private collections across Canada. He is the author of several books, including the acclaimed The Face Pullers: Photographing Native Canadians 1871-1939 and Waiting for the Light: Early Mountain Photography in British Columbia and Alberta 1865-1939. This book, 184 pages, is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket, that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. A beautiful addition to collectible Western Canadiana. Inscribed by Author(s).
