The second of two volumes, this book focuses on biographies of Orcadian explorers and writers, Orkney words and expressions, original short stories and poems, and Essays and sketches of his contemporaries George Mackay Brown, Storer Clouston, Chrissie Costie, Stanley Cursiter, Henrietta Groundwater, Eric Linklater, Hugh Marwick, Edwin Muir and Robert Rendall; an extensive and original list of Orcadian dialect words and sayings; sixteen poems written by Ernest Marwick; sketches on Herdie Boys and Girls and Courting Customs; and his fictional 'How Orkney Became A Nation'. Ernest Marwick combined research into archives and oral tradition in a blend of styles. Both serious analytical articles, and the more anecdotal light-hearted pieces, will reward the student and the interested layman alike. The second volume of this Anthology has been meticulously and sympathetically edited by John Robertson, James Irvine and Marie Sutherland.
