Michael Hodd is an economist who studied at Cambridge, the London School of Economics and Princeton. He has worked for the Canadian Government, La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and he is now at the University of Westminster in London. He is married to Angela Roche. He has visited Africa more than 50 times, and he hopes the Handbook conveys some of the enthusiasm he feels for the continent.
Angela Roche spent her early childhood in Malaysia. Michael noted in the acknowledgements of the 1995 edition of the East African Handbook that ?Angela, my wife, and my son, Jack, of course gave absolutely no help, encouragement or support whatsoever, and derided the entire project from start to finish.” Michael’s persistence has paid off as Angela developed an interest in Uganda. It has to be said though that maybe this is because she is unfortunate enough to be married to someone who edits East Africa travel books, but superman that he is, cannot handle everything he’s got on his plate alone.
