Geoffrey Chaucer (c1343-1400) is England's best-loved medieval poet. Famed for his bawdy 'Canetrbury Tales', he was also the author of 'Troilus and Cresyde', 'The Parlement of Foules', 'The Legend of Good Women', and 'The Book of the Duchess'. Chaucer's use of the English language, when much court poetry was written in Anglo-Norman, helped establish English as a prime literary form.
