‘The Warehouse grows onto you, like a pop song .... Mausoof’s language is casual, his repartee is witty and he knows when to stop.’ Catherine Rhea Roy, Indian Express
‘S. S. Mausoof is a Pakistani Raymond Chandler... He takes crime fiction “out of the Venetian vase and drops it into” the mohalla.’ Claire Chambers University of York
Syed Quais Ali Quereshi aka ‘Cash’, a Karachi based insurance surveyor, is contracted by his extremely persuasive ex-girlfriend, Sonia, to investigate the details of a warehouse fire, and find the recipient of the insurance claim, in the dangerous, drone-infested Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) of Waziristan.
Amidst the layers of corrupt police, private security forces, the Pakistani army and scurrilous locals, ‘Cash’ desperately tries to complete the investigation but attracting unwanted attention proves futile. He is eventually kidnapped by the Taliban and must formulate a plan to escape and return to his family in Karachi.
