Críticas:
"Verne's imagination has given us some of the greatest adventure stories of all time." "-- Daily Mail ""Journey to the Centre of the Earth is one of the most famous novels ever written. Verne has left us an extraordinary book, which has withstood the test of time better than some of the science described within it. It has brought delight to generations of readers, and will for many more. There is nothing so rare as the chance to take an impossible journey, and to believe it so powerfully that we wonder if we will make it out alive. That's magic. And that's Verne's gift." "--"Michael Crichton, "Daily Telegraph" "Fantasised a parallel world to ours under the earth's crust. This hypothesis was both popular and subscribed to, even by reputable scientists, in the 19th century. Verne's tale... remains the best of its (scientifically) preposterous kind." "--"John Sutherland, "Guardian"
Reseña del editor:
"Fictional trips to the underground are a feature of all mythologies, but the best of the nineteenth-century tales is that of Verne." Isaac Asimov, 1966. A Journey to the Centre of the Earth is an 1864 classic by Jules Verne. It tells of German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snaefellsjoekull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano. This Macmillan Collector's Library edition features illustrations by Edouard Riou (1833 -1900), a French painter and illustrator who illustrated six novels by Jules Verne, and an Afterword by Ned Halley. Designed to appeal to the booklover, the Macmillan Collector's Library is a series of beautifully bound gift editions of much loved classic titles. Bound in real cloth, printed on high quality paper, and featuring ribbon markers and gilt edges, Macmillan Collector's Library are books to love and treasure.
