Inhaltsangabe

FIREFIGHTING WITH GOD is a memoir with a difference. Reviewed as ‘for everybody who is willing to look inward and learn’; ‘a gift to read'; ‘insightful’; and as being ‘hooked by its realism, humour and honesty’. A seemingly innocuous childhood. The heartbreak and trauma of a marriage that failed, despite two wonderful children. A surprisingly successful and joyful thirty years as a Firefighter surrounded by death and serious injury-experiencing every emotion possible. Finally, breaking down at fifty and asking for help. The solution being an almost complete change of direction- including training to become a personal counsellor Firefighting with God is not a religious book, but rather a roadmap for helping you to find your way should you be lost. It is a book about having the courage to believe in finding the love within and, should you need to, the ability to Love another. A seed planted in ideal growing conditions will grow strong and in an ideal way. A seed planted in less than ideal growing conditions will need help and support to grow, but it can and it will.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Born in the late forties, just after the war, to older hard working parents who found it hard to show affection and encouragement meant I would always be searching for Love. School was a mystery; upon leaving my father secured me a job as a carpenter, and I became a Fireman almost by accident. Predictably I led a chaotic life and made decisions with virtually no understanding of the consequences. My first moment of clarity, a light bulb moment if you like, having asked for help, was to find myself interested in a spiritual way of thinking. What resonated with me the most was the idea of there being no such thing as a coincidence and that everything in life is meant to be. The second came while training to be a counsellor and beginning to understand how I was shaped by my earliest years. Combining the two together meant I was able to look at life in a very different way; I stopped being a victim.
