Core Subject: The life of Sir Bruce Jephcott, tracking his journey from a chemist in the Northern Territory to a pioneering cattle rancher, a pivotal minister in PNG's independence movement, and a key figure in establishing the nation's aviation sector. About Sir Bruce Jephcott The biography captures several distinct eras of Sir Bruce's multi-faceted life: The Livestock Pioneer: In the early 1950s, Jephcott moved to PNG and co-founded the Dumpu Cattle Company alongside his wife. They successfully transformed the wild plains of the Dumpu and Markham Valleys into a thriving hub for large-scale livestock and agricultural farming. Upon independence in 1975, he served as a Member of Parliament and held high-ranking cabinet positions, notably as the Minister for Transport. Air Niugini Founder: During his time as Minister for Transport, he was instrumental in the foundational planning, infrastructure development, and launch of Air Niugini, PNG's national airline. Accolades & Legacy: He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) and later knighted (K.B.) in 1983 for his extensive public service.
