Trade Paperback. 1st Edition. Very Good condition. Inscribed to previous owner by by Claire Woods. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels. 308 pages. "This book is intended to be a plain, straightforward account of the experiences of an Australian soldier during the Great War." So says the author who served as a private, NCO and Officer in the 27th Battalion AIF from 1915 to 1919. But as his service record suggests, there is nothing ordinary about this book. Presented here for the first time, after lying unpublished in the Australian War Memorial's archives for almost eighty years, this is the remarkable story of a young university student who enlists to "do his bit" during those "lost" years. The author, Adelaide born, Russell Coleman uses a narrator, John Carlton to describe his own experience of the Great War from a schoolboy at St Peter's College, Adelaide to an infantry officer on the Western Front where he was twice wounded and awarded the Military Cross for gallantry. Includes a glossary of Army terms and slang, the actual Coleman diary, and commentary by historians, Woods and Skrebels. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 322013
