Originally published in 1919, The First Five Hundred is a classic history of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during the First World War. Included are individual military records and photographs of the first contingent to go overseas, known as The First Five Hundred or The Blue Puttee due to color of their leggings. This edition includes an introduction by Memorial University historian Michael O Brien, whose great uncle fought in the First World War.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Richard Cramm (1889 - 1958) was a lawyer and politician in Newfoundland. Born in Small Point, he was educated at the Tilton Seminary in New Hampshire and at the Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Cramm studied law and was called to the Newfoundland bar in 1924. He was elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1923 and became acting Attorney General in 1926. After his defeat in 1928 Cramm returned to practising law in St. John's. He returned to politics in 1932, serving as a minister without portfolio in the short-lived cabinet of Richard Squires. In 1949, he ran unsuccessfully as a Progressive Conservative candidate in the Canadian federal riding of Trinity Conception. Cramm published The First Five Hundred in 1921.
