Chris Snyder is Chairman of the ECC Group, Personal Financial Planners, which he co-founded in 1974. He is the author of a number of best selling books on financial planning — It’s Your Money, How to be sure you have the right RRSP, Teaching Your Child About Money and Financial Planning For the International Executive. Chris has provided broad based financial advice to people from all walks of life, and his advice has covered investment, estate and tax planning as well as cash flow management. Chris is a Past Director and Vice President of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (its Member of Distinction in 1991), a Trustee of the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (he organized the first RFP exams — an Advanced Financial Planning Designation) and a member of the International Tax Planning Association. His business mission is to help people meld their assets and income into a plan “to help them meet their personal and financial objectives.” One of the first financial experts to see himself in part as a financial psychologist, for Chris financial planning is about far more than just dollars and cents. “It’s to do,” he says, “with people and what they want to be. Ultimately, my job is to give my clients a sense of financial security.” Now, as he looks back over 45 years of providing personal financial guidance to thousands of people, Chris has taken a definitive look at financial planning from the standpoint of how, as emotional human beings, we make our financial decisions. His latest book, Be Smart With Your Money, both outlines personal financial planning in our fast-changing times, and examines the role of our emotions in financial decision-making and serves up a practical guide for using emotional intelligence to help secure your financial future. Chris understands that much of our life may revolve around money, but knows that life is about much more than that. And he has walked that talk as a founder and/or board member of organizations ranging from Project Mainstream in Mumbai, India to Street Kids International, The Canadian Landmine Foundation, Toronto’s Youth Employment Services and the Nature Conservancy of Canada (Ont). A member of The Rotary Club of Toronto, he leads groups of Rotarians & Friends to the developing world to build schools and other needed community buildings. He is the winner of many volunteer and community service awards, among them Rotary's Paul Harris Fellowship, and The Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
