Influenced by his father’s wish that he “see this country before it’s all gone,” its grand landscapes, native cultures and lawless reckoning, Stewart Warren hit the road at thirteen not only to discover, but to participate in the making of, the American West. Supported by his mother’s erudite appreciation of the civilized world and his brother’s love of history and philosophy, he set out upon a life of fierce dedication to discover for himself the heart of humanity. Stewart recalls, in one of his many stays in county jails as a younger man, the words of an old Ka Indian, who at the end of each round of storytelling would say, “I’ve seen a world, I’ve seen a good world, I am satisfied.” In the face of all appearances it is the heart that knows this goodness, a vital truth that Stewart Warren believes is worthy of continual investigation. ZigZag Ascension (2016) by Stewart Warren is his most recent exploration of the psychic and spiritual mind space that is formed from this goodness.
