Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Marianna Sousa is a multimedia journalist, author and community educator. In 2015, Marianna Sousa graduated from The Maynard Institute for journalism followed by the 2016 NPR Next Generation Radio Training project at Capital Public Radio. Through multimedia storytelling, Marianna serves as a community correspondent focused on building healthy lifestyles in the home, school, neighborhood and workplace. Her commitment to civic engagement and leadership development has earned her the 2015 Exceptional Women of Color (EWOC) Social Welfare & Community Activism Award. As a community facilitator she hosts community events, conferences and workshops focused on community awareness and social change. Since 2012, she has organized Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, an annual event committed to galvanizing volunteers who have provided thousands of unhomed community members with health care packages. In 2015, she began Neighborhood Survival 101 safety awareness and crisis prevention demonstrations featured on college campuses, for community organizations and in corporate workplaces. From 2016-2017 Marianna served as the Los Rios Community College student trustee and representative for over 80,000 students. As the voice for student interests and campus life, she contributed to student-led statewide bills to increase campus safety and mental health awareness. Marianna demonstrates a dynamic style of “edutainment” within her lectures, workshops and performances. Her life’s work exemplifies the power of social pedagogy through facilitating positive, culturally relevant learning opportunities for students and educators. Her book, "Own Your Shit" is a refreshing self-help workbook focused on trauma healing through storytelling to address mental illness and emotional hygiene.
