In The Leader within Us, business leader and experienced mentor Warren Rustand finally puts in writing the basic principles of what he calls a life by design― that is, a life that, through deliberate choice and hard work, reflects the vision and aspirations of the person living it. These are the same principles that Rustand has enacted in his own life and has taught to many other adults who have come to him for guidance. You will find his story, and some of their stories, in this book.
No matter where you begin, no matter your age or ability or circumstances, there is always the possibility for growth, for redemption, and for success. This book is a blueprint for making significant changes, setting and achieving your goals, and living a life you can be proud of. It will help you be the person you want to be, starting today.

WARREN RUSTAND is a husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, corporate leader, educator, speaker, and philanthropist. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Arizona, where he was an Academic All-American basketball player.
After a stint in public service under President Gerald Ford, Warren entered the private sector as an entrepreneur. He subsequently was CEO of six companies and chairman of many others. He has served on the boards of directors of some fifty-two for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Warren was global chair of the World Presidents’ Organization and is the current dean of learning for the EO Global Leadership Academy, in addition to all Regional Leadership Academies. He is a well-known speaker on topics of leadership, personal development, strategy, scaling businesses, entrepreneurship, and family.
More than anyone I have ever met, Warren Rustand has helped countless others to clarify what they want most: to live and lead according to their values, and to elevate expectations both for themselves and those they lead. His impact on an entire generation of future leaders is immeasurable, and I am excited to see him share his wisdom in a book for the first time.
—BOB GLAZER, CEO, Acceleration Partners; bestselling author, Elevate and Friday Forward
I have known Warren Rustand for more than twenty years in my roles as the CEO of two international not-for-profit associations. During that time, he has been an inspirational and aspirational leader, espousing these leadership principles and positively impacting the lives of literally thousands of global business leaders through events, writings, and personal interactions. I have incorporated these principles to help me become a better business leader, a better husband and father, and a better person. This is a thoughtful, masterful study of leadership and its relevance, and is a must-read for anyone wanting to truly achieve a “life by design.”
—BOB STRADE, former CEO, World Presidents’ Organization and Entrepreneurs’ Organization
