Inhaltsangabe

Funny Thing Is melds philosophy, science, and personal observations to result in a multifaceted take on modern comedy-one with a heartfelt message.-Foreword Clarion Reviews In this thought-provoking book, playwright and author Stephen Evans explores the complex human phenomenon of comedy, looking far back into prehistory for evidence of how the various systems that make up comedy have evolved. Notable philosophers have examined the subject of comedy, including Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Freud, and Bergson, and the author uses those concepts as springboards to examine the elements of comedy, its uses, and its potential not simply to entertain but to shape our civilization. Although Funny Thing Is is accessible to anyone interested in thinking about comedy, it's especially relevant to writers and performers looking to improve their work. -Blueink Review From the nature of laughter to philosophical reflections, the connections drawn between major thinkers and comedy's impact on daily life makes for thought-provoking reading, and certainly will power book club and classroom discussions.-Midwest Review
