What if a lifetime of love, sacrifice, heartbreak, triumph, and survival could be captured one poem at a time?
Flashes From My Rearview Mirror: Poetic Thoughts on Love, Life and War is a deeply personal and inspiring poetic memoir that invites readers to look back on life's defining moments while finding strength for the journey ahead.
Drawing from decades of lived experience, including service as a nineteen-year-old Army medic during the Vietnam War, Raymond Lopez offers a remarkable collection of poems that explore the emotions and lessons that shape every human life. Love, family, faith, courage, aging, loss, patriotism, resilience, and hope are woven together with honesty, compassion, and hard-earned wisdom.
The collection unfolds through three powerful sections, Love, Life, and War, creating a moving progression from the joy and vulnerability of human relationships, to thoughtful reflections on personal growth and purpose, and finally to the unforgettable realities of combat and the lasting impact of military service. Throughout the book, Lopez writes not as a distant observer but as someone who has lived through extraordinary challenges and emerged determined to help others navigate their own.
Whether reflecting on the enduring bonds of family, confronting regret, celebrating resilience, or giving voice to the unseen emotional scars carried by veterans, every poem encourages readers to pause, reflect, and discover meaning within their own lives. His writing reminds us that wisdom is not inherited. It is earned through experience, perseverance, compassion, and the willingness to keep moving forward.
Perfect for readers of inspirational poetry, reflective memoirs, military literature, and philosophical verse, Flashes From My Rearview Mirror offers more than beautiful poetry. It provides encouragement, perspective, and timeless insights that linger long after the final page.
This unforgettable collection is a tribute to the human spirit, reminding us that every life leaves a trail of memories worth revisiting, every struggle carries the potential for growth, and every reader can find a piece of their own story reflected in its pages.

After having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Raymond Lopez earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He worked for several major corporations and gained a great deal of common knowledge both at the corporate level and the everyday survival level. Every chance he had, he volunteered his time to work with high school kids to teach them about the pitfalls of life as well as a commonsense approach to life. Flashes From My Rearview Mirror is Raymond's debut book and just the beginning of several planned books in poetry, novel, and short story form.
