In captivating style, the author focuses on a specific experience and appends to it a lifetime of connected images, some fleeting and others perennial. She creates whimsy and humor in her recollections of teaching kindergarten or shopping for her son’s used trombone. Her modes and means of travel over the years are described in philosophical terms, whether by beat-up automobile, early passenger trains or a trans-Atlantic flight to Denmark. Who else has sensed a connection between a childhood backyard swing and quantum physics or the neurological development of the brain? And her description of trying to cope with modern-day technology in the kitchen is near hilarious. This book makes good reading!
