Fourteen-year-old Juliana's parents made the biggest decision of her life without her.
To help her grandfather, who lives with Alzheimer's, Juliana's parents move the family three thousand kilometres across Canada in the middle of her final year of junior high. Now away from her dance team and her best friend, Juliana’s living among a big extended family she's only ever met over the phone.
Homesick and aching for the life she left, Juliana escapes to the cellar in the basement one night and finds a box of forgotten books. Tucked among them: a small sketchbook by an unnamed artist.
Juliana’s grandfather is the only person who can explain these sketches—drawn by his mother as a teenager a century ago—but his memories rise and slip away in the same breath.
Can a hundred-year-old sketch diary help Juliana find her place in this new life?
The Move is the series starter for Between Worlds by Lori Wolf-Heffner: a dual-timeline coming-of-age series for ages 13 and up. Two fourteen-year-old girls, connected across one hundred years by a sketchbook and a family they share, face displacement, belonging, and quiet courage. A story rich enough to hold an adult's attention and gentle enough to share.
