The ability of archaeology to trace objects itineraries, define clusters of things and provide structured evidence allowing the characterization of movements over time is well known. This book aims to use this potential in the undestanding of objects movement through Europe during the late Middle and early Modern Ages. Tracing the interactions of people, ideas and objects across cultural and geographical areas, all papers in this book consider how things on the move acquire new meanings and values and transform social relations and the environment in their new setting. Besides, tackling this consideration, authors from all over Europe discuss one or some of the following points: empirical aspects delving with the contribution of archaeology to trace objects itineraries; changing significance of artifacts from one context to another (trade value, use value, etc.); imports agency to transform the regional production horizon and "host societies"; objects action in their various contexts (materializing memory and emotions, etc), the various ways of transport: land or/and sea strategies, trade, gifts or other modes of exchange of objects or raw materials.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Dr Magdalena Naum is an associate professor at the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, Aarhus University. Her research focuses on migration, Scandinavian colonialism and cultures of collecting. She co-edited Scandinavian Colonialism and the Rise of Modernity (Springer, 2013) and Facing Otherness in Early Modern Sweden (Boydell 2019), and authored numerous articles on the subject of her research. Dr Jette Linaa is curator of historical archaeology at Moesgaard Museum and adjunct assoc. prof. at Department of Arhaeology and Cultural Studies, University of Aarhus. Linaa is the author of several volume and papers on Early Modern consumption, as well as editor of an anthology on diasporic communities in Early Modern ScandinaviaDr. Sergio Escribano –Ruiz is part-time Professor and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He has carried out research across Europe (Spain, Italy), America (Canada, Argentina) and Africa (Sahara), studying several topics ranging from historical pottery and settlements to colonialism. Escribano-Ruiz is has authored several papers on such topics and is actively engaged in related international associations.
