Sophie Calle est auteur, narrateur et personnage de ses histoires et mises en scène photographiques, des ¿œuvres à forte teneur autobiographique¿ (Christine Macel, ¿La question de l'auteur dans l'œuvre de Sophie Calle¿, dans Sophie Calle, M'as-tu vue, 2003, Centre Pompidou/Xavier Barral). Elle a acquis sa notoriété dans les années 1990, en France et aux États-Unis, par la publication de nombreux ouvrages chez Actes Sud et suite à la réalisation de son premier film, No Sex Last Night. Elle fait désormais partie des plus grandes artistes de la seconde moitié du xxe siècle.
