It was around the 1930s that many of the products, devices and concepts as we know them today have been discovered: antibiotics, radars, turbojets, plastics from rubbers and synthetic fuels, Radio… But we will have to wait until the beginning of World War II to make all these inventions and finally find their industrial development. This book tells the story of 50 discoveries, chosen arbitrarily among many others which, by allowing us to understand the great story through that of technology, sheds new light on what the gigantic Overlord operation was.

Philippe Bauduin
L’auteur avait 14 ans quand il a rencontré pour la
première fois le génie britannique sur les champs de
bataille de Normandie. Désormais à la retraite (carrière
dans l’armée de l’air comme officier-interprétateur puis
ingénieur de recherche dans le civil), il vit dans sa
petite maison de campagne, une ancienne station de
pompage construite par le génie britannique en 1944,
où il passe une grande partie de son temps à faire
perdurer la renommée des Royal Engineers et à écrire sur
leurs réalisations, en Normandie. Il a notamment publié
des articles sur la construction des terrains d’aviation et la
logistique associée à l’opération Overlord.
