In this accessible book, John McLaughlin examines the rich prophetic literature of the first Testament to identity the way it addresses questions of justice. In exploring the historical, religious, social and economic context of these, some of the oldest sources of the Bible, McLaughlin shows how this prophetic message relates to our own time and circumstances. Justice in the Balance presents selected writings form Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Amos, Micah, Zechariah and Malachi, among others. Each prophet s approach to the question of justice is discussed, so that each passage can be understood in its own terms. More importantly, these prophetic excerpts are presented in order to illustrate their relevance for the modern world and the kinds of comparable transformative actions they suggest.
Biografía del autor
John McLaughlin teaches Old testament and the Hebrew bible at the University of St. Michael's college, Toronto. He is a long-time Novalis author and editorial adviser.
