Since the late 1980s, art cannot be thought of in terms of artistic movements. The innovative typology proposed by "700 Artists' Processes" provides an overview of contemporary art from 1987 to 2011. This book presents a synthesis, in tabular form, of the artistic processes of approximately 700 international artists ranging from Adel Abdessemed to Heimo Zobernig. The core area of investigation here is 'the artistic process'. This is defined as the combined action between a Motor (what drives an artist to create) and a Means (the modus operandi the artist employs). The model developed in this book offers a general map of the concerns driving the most prominent contemporary artists and the processes through which these concerns translate into works of art. The reader will then be able to use this basis to further investigate what makes an artistic process original.
